Seems like a must-watch to me

Netflix’s top-rated lists are often filled with must-watch titles, ranging from a mind-blowing documentary to a gripping drama directed by Denzel Washington’s son. But if you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat thriller to add to your streaming queue, you’ve come to the right place.

Introducing The Breakthrough. The true-crime series just hit Netflix yesterday (January 7), and it’s already claimed the number six spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched shows. (It’s currently ranked behind Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, Squid Game, Missing You, Raw and Gabriel Iglesias: Legend of Fluffy.)

The story revolves around a detective named John Sudin (Peter Eggers), who’s determined to reopen an unsolved case that’s been haunting a small town for 16 years. At the time of the double homicide, DNA testing wasn’t as reliable as it is today. So, John teams up with a genealogist to conduct brand-new research before the case goes cold...for good.

In addition to Eggers, The Breakthrough also stars Emelie Falk, Mattias Nordkvist, Jessica Liedberg, Annika Hallin, Marley Norstad and Anna Azcarate.

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “When a shocking double homicide goes unsolved for 16 years, a detective teams up with a genealogist to catch the killer before it becomes a cold case.”

It’s important to note that The Breakthrough is *not* based on a true story. However, it’s inspired by a real case that took place in October 2004 in Sweden. (It was the second biggest investigation in the country’s history.)
