6 Surprising Facts About ‘Euphoria’ Actress Sydney Sweeney

Actress Sydney Sweeney has a pretty busy life these days. Not only does she have a handful of TV shows coming out in the not-too-distant future (Euphoria season two and The White Lotus, to name a few), but she’s also working on a new movie, participating in photoshoots and even fixing up her car on her own.

PureWow recently sat down with the young actress to talk about her partnership with Autotrader, the go-to resource for car shopping with the largest selection of vehicles to search from. During our chat, we learned a handful of things about the 23-year-old star that we previously had no idea about, including the fact that she used to be an MMA fighter.

Keep reading for six facts about Sydney Sweeney.

1. She Has A Love For Cars

And no, not just because of her relationship with Autotrader. In fact, cars have always fascinated her since childhood.

“Cars are something that I’ve always been interested in and I just never had the means to take action on that interest,” Sweeney revealed. “I grew up with mechanics in my family and my mom loved cars. But I never had the chance to actually do anything on my own with them. So, I had a year where I had some down time and kind of went full force.”

2. She’s Even In The Process Of Fixing Her Own

During this year, she’s decided to take on a major project.

“I recently just bought a Ford Bronco that I’m working on fixing up myself,” she revealed. “Its been a lot more work then I thought it was going to be. I guess I was in over my head. But I’ve been trying to learn everything and just taking one step at a time. I’m actually changing the transmission in the car so I basically had to take out the entire body of the car, rebuild some things and now I’m putting it all back together. And then I’ll start doing all of the interior cosmetic changes.” We’re impressed.

3. She Has A New Project Coming Out With An All-star Cast

Sweeney joined Debbie Ryan, Alfie Allen, Lucy Fry, Alexander Ludwig and more for a vampire thriller called Night Teeth, coming to Netflix later this year.

“I cant say much about it but it’s definitely a fun surprise when you see me,” the actress told us. “I played a character that my middle school self would have dreamed of doing. So, I’m really excited for it.”

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “A young chauffeur picks up two mysterious women for a night of party-hopping across LA. But when his passengers reveal their true nature—and a dangerous underworld lurking in the shadows—he must fight to stay alive.”

4. She Sometimes Struggles With Playing Cassie On ‘euphoria’

Of course, we had to use the opportunity to ask about the second season of HBO’s popular hit. Luckily, Sweeney assured us that production is officially underway and we won’t be disappointed.

“We’re in the midst of filming—we’re about halfway—and it’s been such a rewarding process the entire time. It’s really creatively fulfilling and everyone is a delight to work with. I just feel like I’m back home with my family again and everyone is just pouring their heart and soul into everything they do. I truly think that this season will blow people away more than season one”

“Cassie hasn’t really figured it all out. And sometimes—me as Sydney—I feel like, ‘Oh, I have this all figured out’ and sometimes I find myself slipping into Cassie and overthinking and rethinking everything. I think Cassie truly doesn’t have a grasp on anything in her life and I’m hoping that I, as Sydney, at least have a grasp on something.”

5. She Loves Recreating Photos With Friends

For example, her recent old Hollywood shoot with pal and co-star Maude Apatow (see above).

“Maude and I are best friends in real life as well as our characters,” Sweeney said of the snaps. “So, she and I wanted to do a fun photoshoot together and Maude is definitely in love with the old Hollywood era and she just emulates that in such a beautiful way. We wanted to do something in that realm so I started looking for inspo for makeup and hair. I came across a picture and sent to Maude and said, ‘Oh my God, we should recreate this.’ We got the team all together and we did it for fun.”

6. And She Used To Train For Mma Fighting

Yes, you read that correctly. However, Sweeney revealed she doesn’t practice as much as she used to since her career really took off.

“I did grappling and kickboxing since I was 12/13-year-old,” she said. “I don’t train as hard as I did because when I actually trained I would do fights and I would compete and I could get bruises and break things really easily. So, when I started Handmaid’s Tale I had to kind of take a step back and not train as hard. Especially for Euphoria—Cassie would not have the same injuries as I would—so I haven’t been able to train as much as I would like to. But maybe one day. I’m pretty good I’d like to say.”
