Back in 2011, a little shop called STORY opened on Tenth Avenue with a brilliant idea: It wouldn't be your average retail store, but a space that "has a point of view like a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells things like a store." In the seven (!) years since, it's easily become one of our favorite places to shop.
Now, the perennially popular concept store is showcasing wares from its past lives (or "stories")—like the tech-focused "Disrupt," the ’90s-nostalgia-fueled "Remember When" and last fall's self-explanatory "Beauty"—at a blowout sample sale where everything is 50 percent off. If you've visited before, you know its offerings run the gamut from jewelry to books to housewares, but one constant is plenty of NYC pride (many items are made by local purveyors). It may very well be the best place in the city to buy a gift—and not just during its annual "Home for the Holidays" story—but we've also never left without picking up a little something for ourselves, too.
The sale starts January 18 at 11 a.m. and runs through Sunday, but the goodies are bound to go fast. (We have it on good authority that cashmere gloves and a portable espresso maker will be in the mix.) Stock up now…then get ready to hear "Where did you get that?" a whole lot in the coming months.
