Lately, Chris Hemsworth has been on a press tour to promote his upcoming Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder, while Miles Teller has been enjoying the success of the box office-dominating Top Gun: Maverick. However, while these two have been keeping quite busy, their latest Netflix film, Spiderhead, is also grabbing audiences' attention.
Based on a George Saunders short story titled “Escape from Spiderhead,” this new sci-fi thriller takes place at a fictional penitentiary, where prisoners of the state are given reduced sentences in exchange for their participation in chemical experiments that alter their mood and brain function. In the film, Hemsworth plays Steve Abnesti, a researcher who oversees the medical experiments, while Teller plays Jeff, an inmate of the prison.
Spiderhead was just released to Netflix on Friday, and in a matter of 48 hours, the flick has moved into the number-one spot on the streaming site's list of most-watched films, overtaking other recent hits like the Adam Sandler sports drama Hustle and the Jennifer Lopez documentary Halftime.
