Netflix’s ‘Sexy Beasts’ Is the ‘Masked Singer’ of Dating Shows

First, there was Love Is Blind. Then there was Too Hot to Handle. And now, Netflix just confirmed that it’s officially run out of ideas for dating shows.

The streaming service recently released the first official trailer for Sexy Beasts, which is probably the most ridiculous concept we’ve ever heard. (In the age of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, that’s saying a lot.)

Sexy Beasts is similar to Love Is Blind in that it tests the limits of blind dating. But instead of having the contestants sit in different rooms, they undergo absurd makeovers to conceal their true identities.

“Welcome to the strangest blind date ever,” the narrator says. “Would you fall in love with someone based on personality alone?”

It would be one thing if the contestants wore Mardi Gras masks and called it a day, but that’s not the case. Instead, they’re donning headpieces even more elaborate than those on The Masked Singer. The costumes may possibly be so distracting that they take away from the true purpose of the show: to find love. “So…I like your fin,” the scarecrow says to the dolphin.

Of course, there’s a big reveal at the end, where the contestants show their faces. “What if I pick you, and I’m not what you expect underneath?” someone asks.

*Sigh* As much as we hate to admit it, we’ll definitely be tuning into the premiere of Sexy Beasts on July 21. (You know, to make sure it’s as ridiculous as it sounds.)
