Sarah Hyland Opens Up About Working with Adam Devine on 'Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin'

If you've seen Peacock's Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, then you already know that Heidi (Sarah Hyland) and Bumper (Adam Devine) share the best chemistry. As it turns out, the same rings true off-screen, because Hyland practically jumped at the opportunity to reunite with fellow Modern Family alum, Devine.

PureWow had the pleasure of sitting down with the 32-year-old actress, who partnered with Tic Tac for the launch of its newest flavor (it's Strawberry & Cream). And while discussing her new comedy series, she revealed how much she enjoyed working with Devine again.

She told us, "It's been amazing. I knew that Adam was doing this. And they told me, 'This may or may not happen, we'll see.' And I was like, 'Okay great.' I'm a person that's like, 'If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, it wasn't meant to happen, something better will come along.'"

Fortunately, it worked out in Hyland's favor when she got cast as Heidi. She said, "It just kind of fell into my lap, and it was just so amazing to be able to work with Adam again, I love Adam so, so much."

In case you're unfamiliar with the series, it follows Pitch Perfect character Bumper as he heads off to Germany to pursue fame. When he gets there, he befriends Heidi—a talented assistant and songwriter who has quite a bit in common with Hyland.

She said, "Heidi is afraid to sing because she's a perfectionist, and I very much relate to that."

Even Devine was quick to notice this similarity, especially when it came to filming the musical scenes. Hyland told us, "We're filming these long hours and then, after shooting, you go to the recording studio to record the thing that you're going to be singing, filming and performing in the next couple of days. I'm [usually] in between takes learning the songs and the harmonies. And Adam was like, 'What are you doing?' And I'm like, 'It's the song.' And he was like, 'You're such a perfectionist.'"

She added, "Even when we did our dance number, I was like, 'We can do it again, I can kick higher.' And Adam's like, 'We did it perfectly, your kick was so high, you're fine.' I'm like 'No, it can be higher.' So I can be very anal-retentive, just like Heidi."

Fortunately for fans, Bumper and Heidi are set to make a comeback in season two. Plot details are currently under wraps and a release date hasn't been confirmed just yet, but for now, you can stream all six episodes of season one on Peacock.
