The first half of Outer Banks season four is now streaming on Netflix, and I must admit, I’m quite surprised by how entertaining the new season is shaping up to be.
‘Outer Banks’ Season 4 Just Hit Netflix—But How Does It Compare to Previous Seasons? Here, My Honest Review
Calling all Pogues!
Outer Banks season four picks up right where the previous installment ends, with the Pogues pursuing a new treasure hunt with Wes Genrette. (You know, the guy who gave them Blackbeard’s captain log in the season three finale.)
Instead of diving right into the log, the first episode details all the moments that led to the Pogues agreeing to meet with Wes. Because at first, they are determined to put their treasure hunting days behind them so they can pursue other endeavors—like battling Rafe and Topper in a beachfront motorcycle race called The Kildare Enduro.
With three successful seasons under its belt, there was a chance that Outer Banks season four would seem redundant because there are only so many ways the Pogues can hunt for treasure before the storyline feels forced. Luckily, the new installment introduces an entirely new adventure that appears far more dark and creepy than previous seasons.
Despite its potential, some of the scenes in the first episode feel unnecessary. Netflix could have easily dove right into Blackbeard’s captain log without spending an entire episode focusing on the Pogues’ new business (aka Poguelandia 2.0) and JJ’s ongoing irresponsibility with the little money they have left. But since Outer Banks rarely introduces a story line without revisiting it later down the line, I imagine the events in the first episode are going to matter in the future.
The second half of Outer Banks season four is set to premiere on November 7. But based on what I’ve seen so far, the new installment is one for the books.
