My Fiancé Made Me Watch This Super Steamy Show & I Hate That I Can't Stop Bingeing It

Yes, it’s trashy. No, I don’t care.

My fiancé has a real knack for getting me sucked into trash television—and I simultaneously love it and hate it. Of course by “trash TV” I’m referring to some of the best shows ever, but they just happen to be soapy, over-the-top and really really addictive. I’m talking Desperate Housewives, Devious Maids, La Reina del Sur. And now, he’s somehow gotten me bingeing another throwback show—one that is super steamy—and I hate that I love it. I’m obviously talking about the early 2000s hit series Nip/Tuck.

Somehow I managed to make it to the year 2024 without ever seeing an episode of the sexy series about not-so-nice plastic surgeons (though full disclosure, I was shown the Mario Lopez shower scene by many a good friend over the years). And now, in a matter of days, I’ve found myself bingeing the show with my fiancé, and I’m so mad that he’s done this to me again. The show is trash-tastic and so so fun to watch.

It should come as no surprise that Nip/Tuck comes to us from the Mr. Ryan Murphy (who gave us Glee, Feud, The Watcher, AHS, Pose, Scream Queens, Hollywood, the upcoming Grotesquerie featuring Niecy Nash and Travis Kelce). Set in Miami, the medical show follows two doctors, Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon), as they perform plastic surgery, balance their love lives, avoid serial maniacs and make bad decision after bad decision. The series ran for six juicy seasons from 2003 to 2010 on FX.

Like any Ryan Murphy special, Nip/Tuck is intentionally campy, with outrageous storylines and beautiful people galore. Parts of it can be hard to watch (and not just because of the nonsensical plot points). Similar to other medical dramas like Grey’s, there are a number of onscreen procedures that take place and they are, well, quite graphic. Just like his other shows, the celebrity cameos are plentiful. We get Lopez, Joan Rivers, Peter Dinklage, Bradley Cooper and more. And despite its over-the-top nature and silliness that make it extremely bingeable, there are also more than a few serious and uncomfortable storylines, including one about a serial rapist.

All that said, I’ve found myself digging into more and more of Nip/Tuck on a nightly basis. All of the episodes are currently on Hulu and it’s really just a matter of time (days, honestly) before I’ve flown through them all.
