This Zendaya Drama Is Now the #1 Movie on Netflix

Love romantic dramas that explore the darker side of relationships? Well, allow us to introduce you to your newest obsession: Malcolm & Marie.

The long-anticipated movie finally hit Netflix on Friday, Feb. 5, and within just three days, it skyrocketed to the top spot on the streaming platform's most-watched movies list. Though the black-and-white film was met with mixed reviews from critics, both Zendaya and John David Washington have been praised for their solid performances. And from the looks of this trailer, there's a lot more to this romance story than meets the eye.

In Malcolm & Marie, a filmmaker named Malcolm Elliott (Washington) returns home with his girlfriend, Marie (Zendaya), after his movie premiere and awaits the response of critics. As the couple spend the evening together, however, things take a dark turn as they engage in deep discussions about the film and their lives.

In addition to starring in the film, Zendaya and Washington co-produced the drama, along with Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. Additionally, Levinson wrote and directed the film.

Several critics have been raving about the film, including Tom Beasley, who described Malcolm & Marie as "a movie that approaches relationships with an oil and water combination of melodrama and maturity," adding that "it proves to be the perfect mixture." Even fans have taken to social media to share how much they loved it.

Critic Joe Frair from The Victoria Advicate added that the drama includes "blazing performances by Zendaya and John David Washington. If an actor is only as good as the source material, the film speaks volumes for Sam Levinson."

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, it's only fitting that we add this dark romance to our queue.
