We Have a First Look (and a Release Date) for ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’

This news certainly has us dancing with joy—My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 has a release date, and it's arriving this year, on September 8.

The third installment in the rom-com franchise was delayed in production due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but now we will finally see more from the iconic family that was the focus of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016).

“#MyBigFatGreekWedding3 is coming to theaters September 8!” the producers wrote on the franchise's official Instagram account, along with a pic of the cast from the set. They also included a quote from producer Rita Wilson, who said, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding has brought audiences joy for twenty-one years. I’m so happy that more joy is on the way.”

Fans of the series can breathe a sigh of relief, because star Nia Vardalos is returning to write the screenplay, and she will reprise her role as Toula alongside John Corbett (who we know has been busy filming episodes for And Just Like That... season 2 as well).

This time around, Vardalos will also take the director's seat, while Wilson, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman are all returning as producers.

Other cast members for the film will include Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Maria Vacratsis, Andrea Martin, Elias Kacavas, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone and Melina Kotselou.

The last time we left off with this family, we had jumped 10 years into the future, where Toula and Ian (Corbett) were struggling to keep the spark alive while also raising their defiant teenage daughter. Oh, and of course—there was another wedding.

Although few details have been revealed about the plot for MBFGW3, Vardalos confirmed in October 2021 that the sequel will involve another Greek wedding. Filming for the movie began in June 2022 and wrapped in Greece in August 2022.

You'll find us heading to theaters on September 8 (and smashing a few plates on our way).
