Walmart is using The Plastics to promote its Black Friday sale, and consider us sold.
‘Mean Girls’ Cast Reunites for Iconic Black Friday Commercial Riddled with Movie References
So fetch
Lindsay Lohan (Cady Heron) recently teamed up with her former co-stars, Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith) and Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Weiners), to create a Mean Girls-inspired ad for Walmart.
The Falling for Christmas star, 37, debuted the commercial on Instagram today, and it features a modern-day glimpse of what The Plastics are doing. Now, Lohan’s Cady is working as a guidance counselor at North Shore High School. And Chabert’s Gretchen is trying—and failing—to be a “cool mom.”
The ad is filled with classic Mean Girls references. “At North Shore, some things never change,” Lohan says in a voiceover. “On Wednesdays, we still wear pink.”
But the one-liners have been slightly altered to coincide with Walmart’s Black Friday sale, which kicks off on Wednesday, November 8. “Get in, sweetie. We’re going deal shopping,” Chabert adds.
The commercial also features cameos by the other fan-favorite cast members, including Rajiv Surendra (Kevin) and Daniel Franzese (Damian). “Don't let the haters stop you from doing your thang, Kevin Jr.,” Surendra tells his son.
Although fans are thrilled to see the Plastics back together again, the commercial also fueled a few burning questions among fans. Will the cast reunite for another project? Many believe the 2004 film should get a reunion special or follow-up film, but no one has confirmed the news (at least not yet). Plus, where is Rachel McAdams (Regina George)? We expected at least a reference to the iconic character, but she wasn’t addressed.
Regardless, the marketing department deserves a raise for this masterpiece.
