If the name Macy Kate doesn’t ring a bell, just wait—because it’s only a matter of time before she’s a household name in the music industry.
We recently sat down with the 22-year-old to get the scoop on her budding career and new song, “L.O.V.E.” Keep scrolling for some fun and interesting facts that you (probably) didn’t know about Macy Kate.
Macy Kate’s obsession with music started at a young age when her mom hired a music teacher. “My mom put me in piano lessons, and I developed this love of music and melodies,” she told PureWow. “The piano was really something that triggered my singing.”
To this day, Macy Kate considers the piano to be her safe space. “The piano is something that calms me,” she added. “It’s my home. It’s where my roots are.”
After joining (and then exiting) a girl group, Macy Kate established herself as a solo artist and even went on tour with Flo Rida, where she got her first taste of life on the road. “It was something that I will never forget,” she said. “I got to perform in places that I have dreamt of performing and that were on my bucket list of venues that I wanted to do.”
Macy Kate released the audio for her newest track, “L.O.V.E.,” earlier this week, followed by a brand-new lyric video (shown above). The singer told PureWow that the song’s concept was inspired by her childhood jewelry box, which featured a ballerina.
“Just sort of thinking about ballerinas and their feet when they’re on pointe. It’s so beautiful,” Macy Kate told PureWow. “And then when they take off their shoes, you can see how much pain they’re in, the struggle their feet have gone through and the amount of hard work and everything that they’ve been through when dancing.”
Despite her love for ballerinas, Macy Kate doesn’t consider herself to be one, even though she took lessons as a child.
“I definitely would not consider myself a dancer whatsoever, but I did take ballet lessons,” she told PureWow. “It was mostly for swimming. I was an athlete, and I took ballet to keep my flexibility. It was actually the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”
Macy Kate admitted that her personal experience contributed to the concept, adding, “I gained so much respect for ballet, ballerinas and everything.”
Yes, you read that right. Macy Kate is a budding fashionista—so much so that she regularly designs and makes her own clothes.
“I love fashion,” she told PureWow. “I love making my own costumes and clothes.”
Macy Kate learned how to sew “from a super young age” because her mom wouldn’t let her buy designer items, which forced the singer to get creative. “So, I would rip things and sell things and use safety pins,” she said. “I liked my resources.”
While Macy Kate has “about one more song” to release from her EP, she’s already looking forward to her next adventure.
While discussing what’s next, she said, “Definitely a lot of touring. I haven’t been on tour in so long, so I’m super excited to get back on the road and perform that EP.”
