See First Glimpse of Melissa McCarthy as Ursula in New ‘The Little Mermaid’ Teaser

Disney is offering a first glimpse of Melissa McCarthy as Ursula in The Little Mermaid, and it’s safe to say that it was worth the wait.

Today, the studio released another teaser for the live-action film that’s inspired by the 1989 animated movie. Similar to the first trailer, the new clip is short and sweet. It also features a never-before-seen look at Ursula, whose creepy laugh is what dreams nightmares are made of.

The clip begins where the first trailer ends, with Ariel (Halle Bailey) sitting on a rock and singing “Part of Your World.” It goes on to show a montage featuring other mermaids, sea creatures and—of course—Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King).

After the title appears on the screen, Ursula’s evil laugh can be heard in the background. Just then, the character (McCarthy) is shown for a matter of seconds. While it’s hard to tell from the dark clip, Ursula is seemingly dressed to the nines, complete with brow-high eyeshadow.

During an episode of Watch What Happens Live, McCarthy revealed that she was extremely impressed by Bailey. “We were on set, and they just started playing Halle’s version of the song. I had a truly, really...not weird reaction, just overwhelming. It’s so beautiful and it’s from such a—it’s just different. That girl has got roots down and she sings from her heart. When I heard it, there were like seven of us that just burst out crying because we had not heard it.”

The Little Mermaid will hit theaters on May 26. Until then, we’ll be listening to the original soundtrack on repeat.
