If you enjoy watching romantic comedies like A Castle for Christmas and From Scratch, then you’ve come to the right place.

La Dolce Villa just hit Netflix on February 13, and within a matter of 24 hours, it's already claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of most-watched movies. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Aftermath and Kinda Pregnant.)

In the film, Foley stars as a dad who’s determined to stop his daughter from making a terrible mistake. It all begins when he learns that she wants to buy a Tuscan villa that needs to be renovated. When he travels to Italy to talk her out of it, he soon realizes why she’s so drawn to the Italian countryside.

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Foley revealed that La Dolce Villa is more than just a cheesy romantic comedy. “His initial determination—to save his daughter from making what he believes would be a huge mistake in purchasing property in Italy—turns out to be a sort of second chance at happiness for Eric, in so many ways,” he said.

La Dolce Villa was directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Mother of the Bride, Freaky Friday), and the script was written by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy (A Perfect Pairing, Falling Inn Love).

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “When his daughter decides to buy a crumbling Tuscan villa, Eric rushes to Italy to talk her out of it—and instead finds beauty, romance and new purpose.”
