A classic murder mystery mixed with an obsession with true crime? That’s what viewers can expect from the highly anticipated Peacock series, Based on a True Story, starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina.

In promotion of the upcoming series, Cuoco, 37, and Messina, 48, sat down for an exclusive interview with PureWow, where they discussed what audiences should expect from the comedy-thriller series. The new mom even opened up about her experience filming on set while pregnant.

Based on a True Story follows a pregnant (and true crime obsessed) woman named Ava Bartlett (Cuoco), who finds herself in the middle of a thrilling murder mystery with her husband (Messina) after someone they know mysteriously turns up dead.

Aside from being a massive true crime fan IRL, Cuoco candidly revealed that she really wanted to be a part of the project for one big reason: to work with her co-star, Messina.

The Mindy Project alum talked about how he really wanted to join the show after hearing that Cuoco was going to do it—and the new mom shared the same sentiment.

“Me too,” Cuoco shared with a smile. “I loved the idea. I loved the writing. The tone is right up my alley as far as it being so chaotic with the comedy, with the fear, the laughter, the sadness.”

While discussing the series, the Big Bang Theory alum (who recently welcomed her newborn daughter) shared that it was “great” and “fun” to play a character who was also about to be a new mom.

“The gift of these writers writing in that I was pregnant was a big gift to me as well. So I got to kind of just be me,” Cuoco told PureWow.

The Flight Attendant star also revealed how much she felt cared for by the show’s cast and crew, especially her on-screen husband, Messina.

While filming Based on a True Story, Cuoco apparently had some strange food cravings. She candidly shared that just one of the many ways Messina supported her on set was that he pretty much ate everything she ate. “I really lived it up,” he jokingly agreed.

“I saw her try to eat her trailer one day,” Messina said with a chuckle. “I walked past her trailer. She was chewing on it. I said, ‘That’s your trailer. You can’t eat that.’”

“Well, yeah, it looked like a cookie,” Cuoco teased. “I know. I couldn’t help it. I know.”
