You probably recognize Jodie Comer as Villanelle from Killing Eve. The 29-year-old actress has been making headlines as of late after getting nominated for her third Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series—but this isn't the only time she's garnered attention on social media.
In 2020, Comer was spotted out in public with her beau, James Burke, which got fans buzzing about their relationship. But who is Jodie Comer’s boyfriend? And how did they meet? Keep reading for all the deets.
Burke is an American lacrosse player. He grew up in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and obtained a bachelor’s degree at Penn State University. After graduation, he pursued a career as a professional athlete.
The couple first met at a party while Comer was shooting her movie, Free Guy, alongside Ryan Reynolds in Boston. While discussing their meet-cute with The Sun Times, Comer said, "This relationship feels very different. This feels like nothing else. When you actually feel it, you're like, 'Ahhh, so this is what it feels like!' And it was special. I was away, it was the height of summer, I was doing this incredible job that was so much fun, it was my first time working in the States. So it was a lot of firsts."
Romance rumors first started swirling early in 2020, when a fan stumbled upon photos of the couple on social media. Although they’ve since been deleted, news outlets had already identified Burke as Comer’s mystery man.
Since then, the Killing Eve star and Burke have been spotted together on multiple occasions, including a trip they took across the pond to the actress’s hometown of Liverpool.
Not yet (at least to our knowledge). The Emmy Award winner opened up about her relationship with Burke earlier this year, but at the time, she hadn’t publicly revealed his name.
“I’m very much in it…I think love’s the best,” she told Vogue. “I’d been single for a while and just kind of going with the flow and doing my thing. That’s the thing, isn’t it? When you’re relaxed and letting the universe do what it’s doing, things kind of fall into place. Which is very much what happened. Which is great.”
Comer temporarily quit social media in May 2020, after she found herself “seeking out negative comments” that people had written about her. Burke also deleted his Instagram account shortly after romance rumors started circulating. (Super stealth.)
But after a short hiatus, Comer made her comeback in July with a stunning photo of herself in Liverpool. The actress hasn't shared any pics with her beau, however, so we imagine they prefer to keep their romance out of the spotlight for now.
