Not One, But Two ‘Sweet Magnolias’ Stars Were Previously on ‘Reba’

There’s a bizarre connection between two Sweet Magnolias stars: JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Maddie) and Brandon Quinn (Ronnie).

Both actors star in Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias, but the popular show isn’t the first time they’ve worked together. In fact, they previously shared the screen on Reba back in 2005. Just let that sink in.

If you recall, Swisher starred on Reba for six seasons as the titular character’s daughter, Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery. Quinn had a much smaller role, playing a delivery man in season four, episode 15 (titled “Flowers for Van”).

It’s been nearly 17 years since Swisher and Quinn were co-stars on Reba. Still, the connection highlights the growth of their now-successful careers, especially since they both dabbled in other projects before joining the cast of Sweet Magnolias.

In the Netflix series, Swisher plays one of the three main characters, Maddie. Although she goes through a divorce in season one, she’s slowly navigating her new normal in the second installment, which includes dating and running a business.

Quinn plays Annie’s (Anneliese Judge) father, Ronnie. Although Ronnie is still married to Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), their relationship is extremely complicated. Prior to season two, they lived separately. But in the latest installment, Ronnie becomes more involved in the lives of Dana Sue and Annie.

Sweet Magnolias premiered back in 2020, and it immediately claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. The same thing happened when season two debuted earlier this month.

Talk about a full-circle moment.
