8 Facts You Didn’t Know About ‘Wednesday’ Star Jenna Ortega

You might recognize Jenna Ortega as the face of Wednesday Addams on Netflix's Wednesday (which was renewed for season 2). Or maybe you've spotted her in scary titles like Scream and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Either way, the young actress is certainly making a name for herself in the horror world. In addition to her many accolades, she boasts over 36 million followers on Instagram. But how exactly did she get her start? And what about her music career?

Keep reading for eight facts you probably didn't know about Jenna Ortega.

1. She started her acting career at just 9 years old

Did you know that Ortega was discovered after her mother shared a video of her on Facebook? Per IMBD, she officially got her start when she was just nine years old, and she landed her first (minor) role in 2012 in the series The Baby Bug. Since then, she has appeared in projects like CSI: NY, Days of Our Lives, Iron Man 3 and Insidious: Chapter 2.

2. She’s nominated for a Golden Globe

The Wednesday star is nominated for the 2023 Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series. She’s being recognized alongside Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Selena Gomez (Only Murders in the Building) and Jean Smart (Hacks).

3. She made history by voicing Disney's first Latina princess

Yep, that's right. Ortega has made significant strides when it comes to representation in the Latina community, but perhaps her most impressive feat was voicing the character Isabel in Disney Channel's animated series, Elena of Avalor, which revolves around Disney's first Latina princess.

4. She's a proud  ambassador for UNAIDS

In honor of her late grandfather, who passed away from AIDS, Ortega has worked closely UNAIDS to help raise awareness.

While speaking at WE Day back in 2017, she said, "I want to help eliminate the stigma of AIDS and get people talking about it. Make it normal. Bring it up. It's a disease that affects all of us."

5. She's obsessed with Stranger Things

While chatting with Talk Nerdy With Us, Jenna revealed that she's the biggest fan of the popular sci-fi horror. She told the outlet, "I follow everyone's theories about the show, and I cannot get enough of it."

6. Her skincare routine is surprisingly low maintenance

Ever wondered how the star achieves her glowing skin? Interestingly enough, Ortega doesn't follow a lengthy, complicated routine.

She told Byrdie, "My skincare is pretty simple. I have two older sisters, so I grew up watching them and wanting to be them, as I feel younger siblings tend to do. So, I'd always practice their skincare with them. It's crazy because I grew up using Neutrogena products from a very young age because that's what my sisters use and it always worked for me."

Her routine? Each morning and night, she washes her face with Neutrogena's Pink Grapefruit Cleanser ($9), then follows up with the Pink Grapefruit Moisturizer ($19). And to treat acne, she'll opt for the On-the-Spot Treatment ($7).

7. She's one of six children

Per TV Guide, the actress has three sisters (Aaliyah, Mariah and Mia) and two brothers (Isacc and Markus). She's the fourth eldest of all her siblings.

8. One of her absolute favorite hobbies is writing

Not only does she sing and act, but it turns out Ortega also has a way with words. During her interview with Byrdie, she said, "I love to write. I write all the time, I'll write about whatever. I'll write essays or I'll write scripts, it doesn't really matter but it's a great way to unwind."
