The movie centers on a retired DEA agent named Phil Broker. To escape his dark past, Phil and his daughter, Maddy, move to a peaceful little town in Louisiana. But after Maddy gets into trouble with a bully at school, Phil deals with hostile parents and quickly learns that there's more to the town than meets the eye.
Based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Chuck Logan, Homefront stars Statham as Phil and Izabela Vidovic as Maddy. Other cast members include James Franco, Winona Ryder, Marcus Hester, Kate Bosworth, Chuck Zito and Frank Grillo.
The action thriller was written and produced by Sylvester Stallone and directed by Gary Fleder. Kevin King Templeton and John Thompson also served as producers.
The film may only have a 43 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes—but don't let the number fool you. Several viewers had great things to say about the action-packed film. Movie critic Ed Whitfield said, "Credit must go to Fleder and Stallone for refusing to settle for a simple, binary, good against evil actioner; investing the material with something resembling human interest." Tyler Hanley from Palo Alto Online also wrote, "This unlikely teaming of Jason Statham and James Franco proves to be a clever blend of action and acting. And the production values are strong throughout, especially in the sound department, so every bone-cracking punch has a little extra emphasis."
