I think that’s the breakthrough that a lot of these characters go through, and I hope it inspires other people to do the same."

Also, per IMDB, Ferrell was offered $29 million to film a sequel, but he turned it down.

"Elf is the best holiday movie of all time and I will not be taking any questions," says Candelario. "I watch this every season (multiple times) and I have it memorized by this point."

Priestley's 1950 British film of the same name? Latifa delivers a magnetic performance—and I'm not the only one who thinks so.

I can't tell you how many times I've cackled at these thieves getting caught in Kevin's traps.

Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, is bored with the spooky holiday (I can’t relate). One day he stumbles into Christmas Town and becomes so infatuated with the idea of Christmas that he decides to create his own version.

Watch this one if you love Halloween just as much as you do Christmas. Executive Editor Dara Katz says her daughter "can't get enough of Jack Skellington as well as the music. 'Here comes Halloween!' is chanted regularly throughout our house."

In this delightfully cheesy holiday film, one teenager gets himself into a pickle when he’s kidnapped by some high school bullies while on his way home for Christmas. Critics weren't impressed by this classic, but Thomas delivers on the charm, and I still think about that hilarious Santa 5k Run.

Kate has dreams of making it big in the music industry. But her future doesn't look too promising, thanks to her recent eviction and her dead-end job at a Christmas store. One day, however, she crosses paths with a mysterious guy named Tom, who changes her life for the better.

While discussing her character, Kate, Clarke told NPR, "So she is struggling to get herself together, and she's struggling to take care of herself, she's struggling to take care of those around her, not really accepting help, kind of. You can tell she's hiding from something, and life isn't bringing her much joy when we first meet her. But she is trying."

A Los Angeles publicist is forced to reconsider her life choices when she is visited by the ghosts of her ex-boyfriends on Christmas Eve. Directed by Gil Junger, the star-studded rom-com was originally called Ex-Mas Carol.

While discussing her role with Black Film, Milian said, "My character, she’s like a Scrooge. A high-powered Hollywood PR girl whose only concern is her job and moving up in the world, and everything is about press and promos. Her job is everything, and she forgets about love and all the great things in life that do exist."

The Irish-Canadian short film is just 30 minutes long, but it packs more than enough humor and poignant scenes. The movie was directed by Damien O'Connor and it earned three Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Award nominations.

Join the Whitfield family as they gather together to celebrate Christmas for the first time in over four years (cue the epic one-liners and awkward family moments). Directed, written and produced by Preston A. Whitmore II, This Christmas was a box office success, grossing $49.8 million on a $13 million budget. It was also nominated for two NAACP Image Awards.

Feeling a bit lonely around the holidays, a young college student places an ad out in the paper to find a family to celebrate Christmas with. Oh, did I mention it’s also a musical? (A major bonus for Glee fans who've heard Riley's powerhouse vocals.) Per IMDB, the movie is based on the true story of a woman named Jackie Turner.

Almost Christmas revolves around a dysfunctional family that celebrates their first Christmas together after the family matriarch’s unfortunate passing. Aside from boasting an ensemble cast, Almost Christmas touches on themes like grief, infidelity and forgiveness.

While discussing his inspiration for the film, director David E. Talbert told The Knockturnal, "I was just really trying to get a family story that revolved around the dad, which is something that we haven’t seen. It’s usually a ‘Big Mama’ matriarch because you know, women hold the family together much better, I believe than we can. So I thought it would be an interesting way to see the way this guy holds it together, this dad."

Watch for the swoon-worthy chemistry between Powell and Lancaster.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Malco confessed, "I was quite insecure when I first showed up on the set. Because I just didn't know if I was going to be funny without being racy and edgy as I normally am, but also not knowing how to set the right tone for the film and for the environment. And [Martin-Green] just showed [and said], 'We gonna do this. This is how it's gonna get done,' and it got done."

Unfortunately, this year, Santa missed one child (yikes) and he enlists the help of his clumsy son Arthur to make things right. The comedy film was met with critical acclaim and earned $147 million at the box office.

Abby Sutton, a struggling photographer, inherits an Advent calendar from her grandfather and discovers that it has magical qualities—and that it just might lead her to Mr. Right. The film features a seriously catchy soundtrack, and Graham is so charming as Abby that I'd have never guessed this was her second Christmas movie.

Sister-brother duo Kate and Teddy are determined to catch Santa Claus on camera. However, their mission soon turns into a wild adventure that involves Santa’s loyal Elves. Jonathan and Sara are attracted to each other from the moment they first meet, but after experiencing what seems to be a bad omen, they separate in hopes that fate will eventually bring them back together. Cusack and Beckinsale have the best chemistry and, FYI, you and your partner can recreate their iconic date by heading to the actual Serendipity 3, where they offer their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate drink.

Winslet and Diaz star as Iris and Amanda, two ladies who try to avoid their love problems by agreeing to switch homes during the holiday season. If you need some incentive to watch this timeless gem, Diaz has opened up about all the positive fan responses. She told Vulture, "People love that movie. I can’t even tell you. People come up to me all the time since the first time they’d seen it, they’re like, 'This is my movie. I watch it every holiday season. It’s the first thing I put on at the beginning of December. I watch it every single day. I watch it with my sisters. I watch it with my mother. I watch it with my best friends.'"

With their daughter away, the Krank family decides to opt out of Christmas altogether (to their neighbor’s dismay). But when she decides to come home, chaos ensues as they try to figure out how to celebrate the holiday at the last minute. Is it the best holiday film you'll ever see? Not necessarily, but I promise it'll have you cackling from start to finish. Directed by Joe Roth, the film grossed $96.6 million worldwide.

Another adaptation of A Christmas Carol, this time reimagined by a set of beloved characters—aka the Muppets. This feature-length film also includes original songs, so be prepared for them to be stuck in your (and your family’s) head all day.

Hepworth gushed, "I'm a sucker for any and all Muppet movies, and that includes The Muppet Christmas Carol. Who knew Michael Caine + Muppets + Charles Dickens would be a recipe for such a good time?"

In the third edition of the National Lampoon series, the Griswold family’s plan for a Christmas vacation quickly turn into a chaotic disaster. This one's worth a watch for the barrel of laughs, plus in order to inspire us to go all out with the Christmas decorations.

Wu said, "National Lampoon had me hiding under my comforter with secondhand embarrassment, but I was also laughing! my friend made me watch it a couple of years ago, calling it a Christmas classic, and I'm glad she did. Nothing like a little Clark Griswold and his holiday light obsession to get you into the holiday spirit."

American Idol alum Kellie Pickler stars as Laurel, a young woman who crosses paths with her old flame, Clay. He's now a music promoter who’s spearheading Graceland’s Christmas Show, and this prompts her to revisit her own musical past in hopes of continuing her singing career. This film marked Eric Close's feature directorial debut, and it's the first movie to ever be filmed at the Graceland mansion.

The only thing better than a fairy tale remake is a Christmas fairy tale remake. After Angie dances with Nikolaus at the Christmasquerade Ball, she suddenly leaves, and Nicholas has no choice but to find her with the help of a single clue. From glamorous gowns and a budding romance to evil stepsisters, this movie has all the makings of a compelling fairytale.

Santa Claus's only daughter is being forced to marry Jack Frost, a guy she has never met, before she takes up the family business. But before her time runs out, she decides to experience the real world and attend college with her loyal elf, Cassie Claus. The rom-com was directed by Blayne Weaver and it features the most adorable meet-cute.

It’s Tim Allen (again) at his finest. When he accidentally kills a man in a Santa suit, he’s transported to the North Pole to assume the role before the following Christmas arrives, much to the delight of his son. The film made $190.3 million at the box office and was followed by two sequels: The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.

Right before Christmas, Belle travels on business to handle the estate sale of a mansion. Her client, Hunter, isn’t the easiest person to work with, but as they spend more time together, Belle learns that there’s a lot more to him than his tough demeanor.

Through the narration of a mailman, this film tells the story of how Santa Claus and several Claus-related Christmas traditions came to be. He tells the tale of a small baby named Kris who was left on the doorstep of the Kringle family (yes, those Kringles). When Kris grows up, he wants to deliver toys to the children of Sombertown but is faced with obstacles that make the task (almost) impossible. (Before you ask—yes, the film is based on the hit Christmas song of the same name.)

The movie follows Meredith Morton, an uptight, conservative businesswoman who struggles to bond with her boyfriend’s relatives during the holiday season. Parker's portrayal of Meredith earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress. Meanwhile, Keaton, Nelson and McAdams each scored a Satellite Award nomination.

Kris Kringle steps in to replace a drunken Santa Claus in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and people love him—that is, until he starts going around town claiming to be the real deal. A young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is, in fact, real. Miracle on 34th Street earned three Academy Awards, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (for Gwenn), Best Writing, Original Story and Best Writing, Screenplay.

A young boy with an uncommon name of Ralphie attempts (and fails numerous times) to convince his parents, his teacher and Santa that a Red Ryder BB gun really is the perfect Christmas gift. Heartwarmingly nostalgic and seriously funny, there’s a reason TBS plays this film commercial-free for 24 hours straight every Christmas.

The Rodriguez family gathers together to celebrate Christmas with their parents. However, it turns out to be far from smooth—especially when the family matriarch, Anna, announces that she plans to divorce her husband.

Although she’s already in a relationship, she finds herself falling for Nick. Will she choose to stop this budding romance on its tracks? Or will she stay with her boyfriend for Christmas?

Vaughn and Witherspoon deliver tons of laughs as Brad and Kate, a couple who has to visit all four of their divorced parents for Christmas. Directed by Seth Gordon, the comedy-drama made an impressive $163 million at the box office, despite negative reviews from critics. Oh, and did I mention that all four cast members who play the parents of the main couple are Oscar winners (including Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Jon Voight and Mary Steenburgen)?

Inspired by Jason F. Wright's novel of the same name, this heartwarming film follows a young journalist named Hope, who uncovers the secret behind a special holiday tradition after finding a jar filled with money at her door.

The Nanny’s Drescher plays Kate, a woman who cleverly sets Hugo up with his high school friend and crush, Patrick, when he returns home for the holidays. Sparks fly between two, but when Hugo gets an opportunity to move abroad for a promotion, he has to choose between love and his career.

Hannah, a corporate agent, is on a mission to buy a famous cookie company. You may or may not feel a sudden urge to put your baking skills to use after watching this one.

Think The Parent Trap, but with a modern-day twist and a bit of holiday cheer. Hudgens stars as the talented baker, Stacy DeNovo, and her royal doppelgänger, Margaret Delacourt. When the two discover that they look exactly alike, they come up with a clever plan to trade places during the holidays. Hepworth said, "Literally all of the Princess Switch movies are delightful. Vanessa Hudgens kills it every time."

The sequel introduces an all-new doppelgänger: the royal’s cousin Lady Fiona Pembroke (also played by Hudgens), who wants to steal the crown. Inspired by Mark Twain's 1881 novel The Prince and the Pauper, the movie features stunning visuals and, per usual, magnetic performances from Hudgens. 

As for how she was able to portray three people, Hudgens told Popsugar, "This film definitely pushed me because never have I ever played three characters. I had two other actors come in and learn all the parts. We would set up a wide shot, which is a camera that nobody can touch because, dare it move, it'll mess up the entire thing and coverage on one of the characters. We'd finish that, I would go into hair and makeup, change and then my other stand-ins would do the same, as well. And we would rotate until we got all of the bits of the scene that we needed."

Hudgens is in her element once again in this third movie, which follows Margaret and Stacy as they prepare to host an international Christmas festival. When a family relic called The Star of Peace is stolen from the palace, they’re forced to enlist Fiona's help to track it down. The rom-com was directed by Mike Rohl and produced by Hudgens and Brad Krevoy.

The movie reimagines the story of Father Christmas, following Nikolas as he embarks on a thrilling adventure to find a magical town called Elfhelm. And yes, it’s based on the namesake book by Matt Haig. Fun fact: Three of the film's cast members appeared in the Harry Potter franchise: Maggie Smith played Minerva McGonagall, Jim Broadbent played Horace Slughorn and Toby Jones was the voice of Dobby.

Sloane is a twenty-something single woman, who’s fed up with her family always setting her up on awkward dates. When she meets a handsome stranger, they agree to be each other’s “Holidate” (aka platonic plus-ones during the holidays).

In her honest review, PureWow's Senior Editor of News and Entertainment Greta Heggeness wrote, "Holidate might not resonate with every audience. That being said, it’s definitely worth the watch if you’re OK with crude, cheesy humor. I’m not saying you should run out and stream it with your elderly parents. In fact, I wouldn’t even suggest watching it with a faint-hearted significant other."

When Peter breaks up with his boyfriend, he decides to bring his roommate home for Christmas instead. Chaos ensues when his mom tries to set him up on a blind date with her fitness trainer, James.

Editor Joel Calfee said in his review, "Single All the Way succeeds in what it sets out to do, with a wholesome and progressive tale of gay romance that carves out its own space among a long line of Christmas flicks. Viewers are treated to believable and romantic dynamics between the three male leads, while also getting some real laughs along the way."

In an attempt to escape her latest book flop, an author named Sophie travels to Scotland in the hope of buying a castle. While chatting with ScreenRant about making the Hallmark-esque film, Elwes, who plays Sophie's love interest, said, "My favorite thing was getting to work with Brooke because obviously, I've been a big fan for a long time, like many people. And when I heard she was doing this movie, and I read the script, I thought how perfectly she was cast in the role of Sophie Brown. And it was an opportunity to really show her comic chops."

After her father’s passing, Regina Fuller is determined to sell her small hometown and evict the residents, setting the deadline for Christmas Eve. Just 24 hours after the festive film debuted on Netflix, it hit number four on Netflix's list of most-watched movies. From Parton's smooth vocals to the festive musical numbers, I could totally see why.

Based on Langston Hughes' play of the same name, the musical drama film follows a young teenager who travels to New York City to spend the holidays with his estranged family. The star-studded musical drama boasts great performances and a festive soundtrack. Plus, it earned Bassett an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture.

In the all-new Home Alone remake, a boy named Max is forced to defend his home against an artifact-seeking couple. In her review, PureWow Executive Editor Alexia Dellner writes, "The moral of the story here is sweet and very neatly summed up at the end (“maybe home is just another word for family”), although attempts to diminish the importance of material goods doesn’t quite hold up as the family cheers when the house gets saved and also rushes to open their presents on Christmas morning."

Natalie is desperate to find love. When she turns to a dating app, she falls for an East Coast guy who seems perfect. But when she surprises him with an in-person visit, she realizes that she’s been catfished.

Dobrev told Tudum, "The theme of the movie is to try to get people to not look at exteriors and look at the human inside. That can come in all kinds of different shapes, sizes, cultures, ethnicities. She fell in love with these humans. It’s really great, and it was a very wonderfully diverse cast that needs to be represented more in film and television."

Two sisters try to continue their family's holiday traditions, even after the death of their father. But when old secrets are discovered, they must decide how to move forward. Rowland shines as Jacquie, a young woman who tries to maintain peace and order in her dysfunctional family as they prep for the perfect holiday shoot. This holiday flick spawned three sequels, including Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding, Merry Liddle Christmas Baby and Merry Liddle Christmas Vacation.

When Madea joins her good friend to pay a surprise visit to her daughter for the holidays, it turns out that her daughter has an even bigger surprise for them. Expect plenty of drama and, of course, Tyler Perry's signature brand of silly humor.

Sumpter, who stars as Lacey, told Black Film, "I think this movie has so many messages. One is really accepting people for exactly who they are. Even with bullying, you have to stand up for yourself in some aspect. For me, it’s about family and bringing them together; bringing two very different families together and it’s about love."

Santa's daughter must take over the family business when her father retires and her brother, who is supposed to inherit the Santa role, decides he doesn’t want the job. Who knew Santa had kids?

Kendrick told Collider, "There is something nice that happens at Christmas where you feel more connected to people that you don't know, and people do a lot of charitable giving at Christmas. In some ways, there are elements of metaphor about that spirit in Noelle, in what Santa represents in the movie.

The comedy centers around three sons, who are desperate to fulfill their mother’s final wish: find wives before Christmas. BTW, this was the first-ever Netflix Christmas movie to be shot in Nigeria, and it features several mouth-watering shots of traditional Nigerian holiday dishes, from pounded yams to jollof rice.

Director Kunle Afolayan told Tudum, "Christmas in [the movie] is like a carnival. Whenever I’m working on a film, I first like to relate the story to myself and my experience growing up and then look around and see what the neighbors and other families usually would do."

Similar to the movie Overboard, a hotel heiress loses her memory in a skiing accident mere moments after getting engaged. A widowed lodge owner finds her and nurses her back to health, all while teaching her the true meaning of Christmas and falling in love. Who will she choose once her memory returns? The movie pays homage to many Christmas classics (like It's a Wonderful Life). And in his rave review, Editor Joel Calfee writes that it "offers all the Hallmark-esque holiday goodness, but also allows Lohan to showcase her talents."

A father vows to get his son a Turbo Man action figure for Christmas. However, every store is sold out of them (of course), and he must travel all over town and compete with everybody else in order to find one. A friendly reminder to get your shopping done early.

Reverend Henry Biggs has not only hit a rough patch in his marriage, but his church is also at risk of shutting down. When he prays to God for help, he gets his answer in the form of an angel named Dudley. But when the angel starts to fall for Henry's wife, things get complicated. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score and earned nominations for five Image Awards.

Adam Sandler ventures into voice-acting for the first time ever in this animated musical comedy, which revolves around a 33-year-old Jewish troublemaker named Davey. Set during the Hanukkah season, Davey is sentenced to community service after he gets in trouble with the law. His task? To serve as assistant referee for the youth basketball league.

Stewart stars as Abby, a woman who plans to propose to her girlfriend, Harper, while visiting her family for the holidays. However, there's just one problem: Harper's family doesn't know she's gay.

According to Hepworth, "The Happiest Season is such a cute fun movie and Stewart and Davis have such great chemistry. Just a very fun time and I appreciate that it doesn't knock you over the head with the Christmas of it all."

Who knew that being stuck at an airport on Christmas day could be such a fun adventure? Follow five kids and their wild shenanigans as they try to bring Christmas spirit back to Midwestern Hover International Airport during a layover.

PureWow Assistant Editor Delia Curtis said, "Unaccompanied Minors is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. Escapades in the unclaimed baggage area? Sneaking into the first class lounges? A car run on vegetable oil? Down hill skiing on suitcases? Say less."

Heggeness noted in her review, "Is it cheesy? Yes. Is the movie designed for kids who believe in the magic of Christmas? Absolutely. However, it made me feel nostalgic in the best way possible. You know, kind of like those claymation Christmas specials that somehow still hold a place in my heart."

Up for a fun spin on a Charles Dickens classic? This feel-good musical follows Ebenezer Scrooge (aka the Ghost of Christmas Present), who is tasked with rescuing a cold-hearted media consultant who’s been labeled unredeemable. From the catchy tunes and silly jokes to the epic chemistry between Ferrell and Reynolds, Spirited just hits all the right notes.
