Who Is Hiroyuki Sanada's Ex-Wife? Details on His Relationship History

If you've seen Hiroyuki Sanada's performance on FX's Shōgun, it should be no surprise that he scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. In the series, he plays the mysterious Lord Yoshii Toranaga—a fictionalized version of Tokugawa Ieyasu—who shares two sons with his loyal wife, Kiri no Kata (Yoriko Dōguchi).

He told The Hollywood Reporter, "My Ieyasu, or Toranaga, he’s a great strategist and he’s powerful, but he’s also a human being. Sometimes he shows weakness and he’s a family man. I suppose humanity was the most important thing for me. He’s not just mysterious and powerful. Sometimes he’s a weak old man. He’s complicated and like all human beings, he has many different faces. I didn’t want him to be the stereotypical strong samurai."

Sanada's on-screen relationship with Kiri is easily one of the show's major highlights, but I can't help but wonder: Is he married in real life? And if so, who is Hiroyuki Sanada's wife? Keep reading for details.

The 63-year-old actor and producer is currently not married, and he has not publicly confirmed whether he's in a relationship. Sanada has also avoided sharing details about his personal life on social media, and he hasn't been spotted with a romantic partner at red carpet events, so it appears that the Shōgun star is single.

However, he was previously married to a fellow actress for several years during the '90s.

According to IMDB, Sanada's ex-wife is Japanese actress Satomi Tezuka (63). Born in Ota City, Tokyo, Japan, Tezuka attended Akasaka High School, and she landed her first role as Yuriko in At Noon in 1978. She has since appeared in 81 shows and movies, but she's best known for her work in Multiple Personality Girl, A-hômansu and Revolver. Most recently, she appeared in shows like Shômonai Bokura no renai-ron, Ryojin no Ono and The Honest Realtor.

It's worth noting that the actress is also quite active on social media, having shared more than 1,000 Instagram posts about her food and traveling adventures.

Per IMDB, the former couple welcomed two children, including a son named Hinato Tezuka. The actor and musician, who was born in 1995, has appeared on his mother's IG feed countless times, from Mother's Day celebrations to mother-son lunch dates.

According to his TuneCore bio, Hinato studied anthropology at Waseda University, then dropped out to pursue music full-time. He also acted in a few projects, and recently made his theater debut in a play called Sleepure, Juri. He shared pics of the cast on Instagram and wrote, "Thank you very much to everyone who came. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who has been supporting me since day one."

He continued, "This program was Sleepure, Juri, written by the master of the absurd theater Gunichiro Takeuchi. Under the direction of Kazuki Suzuki of Tokyo Dry Battery theater company, I managed to make my small theater debut." 

It appears that Tezuka is closer to Hinato than his sibling, who is rarely pictured or mentioned on social media. Still, it's likely that Sanada and Tezuka's second child prefers to remain out of the spotlight.
