Meet Ethan Hawke's Children from Oldest to Youngest

Ethan Hawke has taken on many notable roles throughout the course of his nearly 40-year career. From Dead Poet’s Society (1989) to Gattaca (1997) and Training Day (2001), which he co-starred in alongside Denzel Washington, we’ve barely skimmed the surface of his lengthy resume. Another important role he’s played for many years? Dad.

Some might not know that the 53-year-old is a doting father of four. The award-winning actor shares two children—Maya Hawke and Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke—with ex-wife and actress Uma Thurman, whom he was married to from 1998 to 2005. The Moon Knight actor also has two children—Clementine Jean and Indiana Hawke—with wife Ryan Shawhughes Hawke, whom he tied the knot with in 2008. Fatherhood is a source of joy for Hawke, who, in an interview with Business Standard in 2015, spoke about how much parenting has changed him. "Children make you so much more reflective about everything in your life," he stated adding: "When I had my older children, I was completely staggered by the magnitude of the experience. Maybe you can never be fully prepared to be a father, but I felt like it was fascinating to come to terms with the responsibilities and to structure your world very differently.”

Clementine Jane Hawke is Ethan’s first child with Ryan Shawhughes Hawke, whom he married that same year. At just 15-years-old, Clementine’s life is mostly kept private. However, in an interview with People in 2022, Ethan did mention that Clementine and her siblings aren’t always impressed by his acting career. "They all watched White Fang the other day. I'm in every frame of that movie, and an hour and 15 minutes in I'm like, 'How do you like it, guys?' And they're like, 'It's okay. When are you going to come on?' I was so hurt. I mean, I'm not even recognizable? And they were like, 'What do you mean?' I said, 'That one with the crooked teeth!' 'Oh! That's you?"

As for Clementine, apparently her dad’s acclaimed 2022 film Moon Knight was the first of his films that actually impressed her, as the actor told the publication: "My 13-year-old saw the Moon Knight trailer and all of the sudden, my being an actor was real to her. She watched it on her phone. She’s like 'Dad, this looks really good.' I mean her eyes just went [wide]; she couldn’t believe it. 'That’s what the kids at school are talking about.' So. This is the first one that [impressed] her."

Three years after the birth of Clementine, Ethan and Ryan welcomed Indiana into the Hawke family clan. Similar to her sister, Indiana’s life is kept private, and she’s rarely seen out and about, but the 13-year-old has occasionally been spotted on her sister Maya’s Instagram account. Much like her oldest siblings, Indiana is said to be passionate about music, and she was even seen singing with her family during the pandemic to the tune “To Live Is to Fly.” Occasionally, her dad will also share pictures of her and her sister to his Instagram (which you can see above) to give fans an update on just how much she and Clementine have grown over the years.
