Hide Your Dalmatians: Disney Is Planning for a ‘Cruella’ Sequel

Hide your Dalmatians, because it looks like Cruella de Vil might be returning to the big screen for more spotted fun.

Disney just released the Emma Stone-starring Cruella last month, which explores the backstory of the villain amidst the ’70s punk movement in London. The fashion icon's origin story, which was released to theaters and Disney+ simultaneously, has already grossed over $40 million worldwide and received positive reviews from critics.

Luckily for fans, we might be getting some more Cruella in the future. According to an announcement from The Hollywood Reporter, some of the minds behind Cruella are already looking into making a sequel.

Per the report, Disney is in the early stages of developing a sequel, and Cruella's director, Craig Gillespie, as well as its screenwriter, Tony McNamara, are expected to return.

A representative from Disney told The Hollywood Reporter, “We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date. The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”

There is no word yet as to whether its star, Emma Stone, or any of the other major cast members would be willing to return for a sequel, but we will be keeping our fingers crossed.

Cruella is now playing in theaters and is available to purchase on Disney+ under Premier Access for $30.
