Trust me, it's worth the watch

Saying I am excited to see my all-time fave serial killer series, Dexter, sitting in the Netflix top ten shows list this week would be an understatement.

Though the Emmy-award-winning show first premiered on Showtime in 2006, the crime drama has found a new home on Netflix and has managed to secure a spot in the ranking. And from the looks of it, it appears that Dexter is experiencing a resurgence in popularity—and I can’t say I’m surprised because it deserves allllll the hype.

Currently sitting at the fifth spot on the streaming service’s most-watched shows list, the series follows Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), who solves murders by day and commits them at night. But he’s not just a serial killer; he takes the law into his own hands in order to punish “the guilty” for their heinous acts.

Dexter went on for eight seasons, ultimately coming to an end in 2013. But that wasn’t the last we would see of Hall’s Dexter Morgan. In October 2020, it was announced that a ten-episode limited series titled Dexter: New Blood would be released, with Hall returning to play the titular character.

But wait, there’s more: In 2023, Paramount+ confirmed that a new prequel series is in the works. Dexter: Original Sin will center around a young Dexter, who is transitioning to become a serial killer with the guidance of his father, Harry Morgan.

Last week, Deadline reported that Patrick Dempsey is joining the upcoming show as a series regular. According to the outlet, the Grey’s Anatomy alum will portray Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide Department and close friend of Dexter’s father, Harry Morgan, who will be played by Christian Slater.

It seems only right to have a Dexter rewatch marathon tonight.
