We’re So Excited for This New Series from the Mastermind Behind ‘Friday Night Lights’

Well, we know what we'll be watching on February 3. There's a new drama series coming to Apple TV+ titled Dear Edward, which is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Ann Napolitano. Oh, and it's being adapted by creator Jason Katims, who served as the head writer and executive producer on the hit TV show Friday Night Lights (need we say more?).

Basically, Dear Edward follows a young boy named Edward (Colin O'Brien) who is the sole survivor of a plane crash that ends up killing both of his parents. So, he gets taken in by his aunt, Lacey (played by Orange Is the New Black star Taylor Schilling), and the two try to figure out their new life together, while dealing with the utter grief of their loss.

In case you couldn't guess, you better keep a box of tissues nearby when watching Dear Edward. But, this comes as no surprise, given that Friday Night Lights was often a tearjerker as well.

“People meet me and they think, she's the woman whose nephew survived the plane crash,” Lacey says in the trailer. “But they forget I'm also the woman who lost my big sister.”

While in grief counseling, Schilling's character meets others dealing with loss, like Dee Dee (Connie Britton), who tries to reckon with the passing of her husband, while also discovering that he had a secret life. The trailer also highlights Adriana (Anna Uzele), who says, “My grandmother paved the way. There is no one more committed to carrying on her legacy than I am.”

In addition to these stars, Dear Edward features Amy Forsyth (The Gilded Age), Idris Debrand (Death in Paradise), Audrey Corsa (All Rise), Carter Hudson (Snowfall), Dario Ladani Sanchez (Paper Trail) and more.
