‘Cobra Kai’ Is the New #1 Show on Netflix After Debuting Season 4

Landing a spot on Netflix’s most-watched list is no easy task.

Cobra Kai just claimed the number one spot on the streaming service’s list of top-rated shows, beating out Stay Close, The Witcher, Queer Eye and Emily in Paris. The sudden rise in popularity is likely a result of the brand-new fourth season, which premiered December 31, 2021, on Netflix.

So, what’s with all the hype? Based on The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai takes place 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, where a now-successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) struggles to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of Mr. Miyagi. Now, he must face his previous adversary, down-and-out Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo. And fortunately, there are currently four seasons streaming (so you have a ton of content to binge). For those who are caught up, season three concludes with Kreese’s (Martin Kove) mysterious phone call.

In addition to Macchio, Zabka and Kove, the series also stars Xolo Maridueña (Parenthood), Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor), Courtney Henggeler (The Big Bang Theory), Mary Mouser (Son of the Mask), Jacob Bertrand (Ready Player One) and Gianni Decenzo (Eagleheart).

This isn’t the first time Cobra Kai has landed a spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. The same thing happened last year when season three dropped, and it remained in the number one spot for weeks.

Will history repeat itself? It seems likely.
