The plot for Big Mouth might sound childish, but it’s actually geared toward adults. (You’ve been warned.)
The show follows Andrew, a teenager who is experiencing a slew of firsts—in particular, puberty. With the help of his friends Nick and Jessi, Andrew takes on the horrors of adulthood, one rogue hair at a time. The combination of raunchy humor and childhood references offers an uplifting dose of nostalgia.
Big Mouth features an all-star voiceover cast, including John Mulaney (Andrew Glouberman), Nick Kroll (Nick Birch), Jessi Klein (Jessi Glaser), Jason Mantzoukas (Jay Bilzerian), Fred Armisen (Elliot Birch), Maya Rudolph (Connie the Hormone Monstress), Jordan Peele (Ghost of Duke Ellington), Jenny Slate and and Ayo Edebiri (Missy Foreman-Greenwald) and Andrew Rannells (Matthew MacDell).
Earlier this year, there was some controversy about Slate, who has since departed the cast. She revealed that she will no longer voice Missy, claiming her involvement was “flawed and racist.” The character is now being voiced by Ayo Edebiri.
All four seasons of Big Mouth are now streaming on Netflix. The series has already been renewed for two more installments, so there’s still time to catch up before the fifth season premieres sometime in 2021.
Happy binge-watching!
