This Twist-Filled Thriller on Netflix Is So Good—and Just Wait Until You Get to Episode 3

Don't worry—no spoilers here

As an entertainment editor, I consume a ton of content. Among my faves? Pretty much anything in the true-crime genre (and lucky for me there are a lot of options out there). My latest obsession is a three-part docuseries on Netflix and it comes from the creators of The Tinder Swindler (another must-see). Allow me to introduce American Nightmare.

In this wild thriller series, a young couple reports a home invasion and kidnapping. But when something seems off to the police, they start to suspect that the whole thing could be a hoax. What happens next? Did the crime actually occur or was this a real-life Gone Girl situation? You won't get any spoilers from me. But believe me when I say I never would have guessed it. Featuring interrogation footage and interviews, the series will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very first episode.

And by the time I got to the third and final episode? I could not believe there were more bizarre and unexpected twists still unfolding. Check out the intense trailer below (don't worry—if you think you know what's really going on just from the trailer, you're definitely wrong).

As I mentioned, the series comes from the creators of The Tinder Swindler, Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins.

Higgins told Netflix, “A lot of crime stories are very linear and obvious from the start. What was really intriguing about this story was the fact that every time you think you know what’s happened, there’s another twist.”

She continued, “Everyone thinks they know the ending from the start. In this story, few people would’ve ever predicted that the truth was indeed the truth.”

If you're as into true-crime as I am, do not miss this must-see series. All three episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
