Considering Reese Witherspoon's impressive, decades-long acting career, it shouldn't come as a surprise that she's helped a few of her book club's selections make the leap from the page to the small screen. Yep, Witherspoon has executive produced four television adaptations of books she had previously chosen for Reese's Book Club (and even starred in one of said adaptations). Here's what you need to know—including where to watch.

Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Jessica Parker Both Recommended the Same Book—& It's the Perfect Summer Read

little fires everywhere

1. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

For her book club's fourth-ever pick, Witherspoon selected Celeste Ng's 2017 novel, Little Fires Everywhere. Just three years later, she executive produced the miniseries based on the book for Hulu—and co-starred in it alongside Kerry Washington. The book is about two families in the seemingly progressive Shaker Heights, Ohio—the picture-perfect Richardsons, and single mom Mia and her daughter, Pearl—and the secrets and lies that connect them. Pick up the book if you’re a fan of novels that tackle complicated family dynamics, socioeconomic differences and questions of identity, assimilation and belonging, then binge the series on Hulu.

daisy jones and the six

2. Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Calling all '70s lovers: Taylor Jenkins Reid's best-selling 2019 novel should be on your radar (if it wasn't already). The book follows the fictional rise and eventual disbandment of a ’70s rock group—the titular Daisy Jones & the Six—who love, argue and jam out in a chaotic dynamic that will remind viewers of the lore surrounding Fleetwood Mac. (In fact, Reid's book was inspired by the Fleetwood Mac albums she listened to growing up.) After selecting the title for her book club in February 2019, Witherspoon executive produced the same-named Amazon Prime miniseries, starring Riley Keough, Sam Claflin and Camilla Morrone, in March of 2023.

the last thing he told me

3. The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave

This page-turner begins with a woman named Hannah, who is madly in love with Owen, her husband of one year, and determined to build a relationship with his teenager, Bailey. Despite the tension, the blended family is a fairly happy, low-drama one. That is, until Hannah receives a note from Owen saying “Protect her,” before he vanishes into thin air. Then, Bailey finds a bag full of cash in her locker—the same day the FBI raids her dad’s software startup on suspicion of fraud. Given all the twists and turns, it's no shock the book made a seamless transition to the silver screen in April 2023 on AppleTV+ (executive produced by Witherspoon, of course). But as suspenseful as the thrilling plot is, my favorite aspect of the story is the budding relationship between stepmother and stepdaughter (played on the show by Jennifer Garner and Angourie Rice).

tiny beautiful things

4. Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed

Cheryl Strayed’s popular advice column (and subsequent podcast'Dear Sugar' is officially retired, but her sweet words live on in Tiny Beautiful Things, a collection her best, most heartfelt wisdom. Strayed’s patient, sympathetic guidance is like a hug from your best friend. (Well, if your BFF were extremely smart and absolutely incredible with words.) Take in her sage wisdom by reading the book, the relive it by watching the 2023 miniseries adaptation Witherspoon executive produced over at Hulu (starring the wonderful Kathryn Hahn).
