The 3 Best Thrillers Reeses’s Book Club Has Ever Recommended

reese zodiac ng

1. Aries (March 21 - April 19): Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng

As an Aries, you have the nerve to get things started and can be an inspiring leader. A fire sign, you leap with passion into the unknown, so I know you’ll get sucked into the courageous journeys at the center of Celeste Ng’s (Little Fires Everywhere) 2022 novel. Set in a dystopian near future, it’s about a wise-beyond-his-years 12-year-old searching for his mother, a poet who disappeared when her work became considered controversial. Our Missing Hearts is a departure from Ng’s previous novels, but her talent is as apparent as ever. The novel shines when narrated by its innocent, precocious protagonist, who is wise beyond his years.

reese zodiac renkl

2. Taurus (April 20 - May 20): The Comfort of Crows by Margaret Renkl

Amid a sea of urgent emails, texts and push notifications, Taurus reminds us to take it slow and enjoy the earthly delights around us, making Reese’s 100th book club pick a total no-brainer for them. Written by Witherspoon’s high school English teacher,  it’s described as "a literary devotional," and is made up of 52 chapters that follow the creatures and plants in Renkl's backyard over the course of a year. From notes on a crow spotted on New Year’s Day to bluebirds revisiting the nest box they used in spring, this 2023 title is about joy and grief, and readers are enamored. (One Goodreads reviewer touted it as “a breath of fresh air and a love letter to the natural wonders that are simply out our windows.")

reese zodiac chen

3. Gemini (May 21 - June 20): Counterfeit by Kirstin Chen

Geminis are among the most persuasive zodiac signs, making this book about a cunning manipulator right up their alley. The novel follows Chinese American lawyer whose old roommate has developed an ingenious counterfeit luxury handbag scheme, and it’s totally fun and ethically confounding—just the type of thing a Gem (who can always see both sides of a story) would love to ruminate on.

reese zodiac patchett

4. Cancer (June 21 - July 22): Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

Family comes first for sensitive, intuitive Cancers, who will live for this subtle yet poignant meditation on love (and how it changes over decades), family and getting older from one of the most emotionally astute writers alive. Set during the pandemic, this novel follows a woman whose three daughters return to the family's orchard to learn about their mother’s past. Hopeful and nostalgic, Tom Lake explores what it means to be happy when it feels like the world is falling apart.

reese zodiac condie

5. Leo (July 23 - August 22): The Unwedding by Ally Condie

Confident, self-aware and headstrong, a Leo needs a big story with in-your-face characters. This recent Reese’s Book Club pick delivers on many of those fronts. Set at a luxurious resort in Big Sur, California, it’s a murder mystery with twist after twist—including a violent storm that leaves the guests trapped at the resort. There are leads that go nowhere, secrets threatening to be uncovered and a lot of big personalities that make figuring out who’s behind the killings very tricky.

reese zodiac honeyman

6. Virgo (August 23 - September 23): Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

If you’ve ever met a Virgo, you know that they have pretty unrealistic expectations of perfection (themselves included). For the Virgo who could use a reminder that life can be messy, allow me to introduce Eleanor Oliphant. The inaugural pick in Reese’s Book Club centers on the titular Eleanor, almost 30 and living alone in Glasgow. She is, for lack of a better term, quirky. Over the course of the book, it’s funny, sad and satisfying to see Eleanor begin to creep out of her shell, and, without giving too much away, I will say that while her introduction to the modern world is bumpy and at times tragic, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

reese zodiac sittenfeld

7. Libra (September 23 - October 21): Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld

Charming and loquacious, if you were a movie genre, you’d be a rom-com. It makes sense, then, that you’ll devour Curtis Sittenfeld’s (American Wife) charming 2023 novel, Romantic Comedy. In this modern, compulsively readable take on a rom-com, the 30-something writer at a weekly sketch comedy show (a la Saturday Night Live) starts to fall for an ultra-popular—and handsome—musician who’s serving as host and musical guest on the show. For fans of Nora Ephron and 30 RockRomantic Comedy is deliciously charming and whip-smart.

reese zodiac onuzo

8. Scorpio (October 22 - November 21): Sankofa by Chibundu Onuzo

Passionate, intense Scorpios need an ambitious story to hold their attention. Enter Sankofa. This novel from Chibundu Onuzo (Welcome to Lagos) follows 48-year-old Anna, who feels alone after her mother dies and her husband moves out. Unsure of who she is, Anna decides to dig into her father’s life, and learns about a man who founded a liberation group in Africa that promptly became labeled as a terrorist organization. It’s a vivid exploration of finding one’s place in the world, while confronting the demons brought on by our parentage.

reese zodiac guillory

9. Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21): The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

Quirky. Free-spirited. Eccentric. All of these words describe you, dear Sag. They also describe the protagonist of Jasmine Guillory’s (The Wedding Date) smart, sweet and feminist romance, The Proposal. When freelance writer Nik’s actor boyfriend proposes to her at a Dodgers game, saying no isn't the hard part—it’s having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans. Luckily, a handsome doctor who’s also at the game comes to Nik’s rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. The two then embark on a whirlwind rebound romance, but when things get messier, will one of them be smart enough to know when enough is enough?

reese zodiac ofarrell

10. Capricorn (December 22 - January 19): The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell

You Capricorns are among the most ambitious signs in the zodiac, and you appreciate excellence wherever you find it. I think you’ll recognize such excellence in Maggie O’Farrell’s (Hamnet) gripping 2022 New York Times bestseller, The Marriage Portrait.  In 1550s Florence, Italy, Lucrezia, the third daughter of the grand duke, is free to live life on her own terms. But after Lucrezia is thrust into the limelight, she’s forced to make sense of her new situation. This somewhat true story is about a resilient young woman’s battle for survival.

reese zodiac hoffman

11. Aquarius (January 20 - February 18): The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

You’re eccentric, free-spirited and adventurous and magical, mystical prose is right up your alley. Nab a copy of this prequel to Practical Magic and get immersed in the story of the Owens family’s beginnings. It’s New York City at the cusp of the sixties, the whole world is about to change and Susanna Owens knows that her children are dangerously unique. But when her they visit their aunt in the small Massachusetts town where the Owens family has been blamed for everything that’s gone wrong, they uncover family secrets and begin to understand the truth of who they are. It’ll keep you spellbound and entice your cosmic spirit from start to finish.

reese zodiac reid

12. Pisces (February 19 - March 20): Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

You’re creative, imaginative and occasionally a little dramatic. You also appreciate art of all kinds, meaning you’ll dive headfirst into Taylor Jenkins Reid’s smash hit about a fictional rock band (loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac). Written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the ‘70s, it chronicles the group’s rise to fame, its beautiful, talented lead singer Daisy and its infamous and mysterious breakup. (And once you’re done you can—and should—watch the Amazon Prime original series it inspired.)
