If you have a book lover on your holiday shopping list and don't want to risk picking up a book they've already read (or one that doesn't quite fit their taste), I have a gift idea they're sure to love, whether they prefer gripping thrillers or moving memoirs. Behold, the Glocusent book light, which has gone viral on TikTok for its compact design and bookworm-approved features. I've personally been using the extendable version (from $16; $14) for several months now and rarely go a night without it, but buyers also swear by the standard version (from $21; $11) that's racked up more than 16,000 5-star reviews. So what makes this nifty little book light a total must-have? Keep reading for all my thoughts.

First of all, this book light is *small,* especially compared to others I've tried, which had featured gooseneck designs that took up more space on my nightstand and often felt heavier on my books. The Glocusent is both compact and lightweight, so I can sit back and relax without the extra heft, and easily pack it with me any time I'm traveling. (Psst: It would definitely come in handy on nighttime flights, too, when you don't want to disturb fellow passengers with an overhead light.)

I also appreciate just how many different settings there are on this light. You have three different warmths to choose from (a warm light, crisp light and "versatile" shade that falls in-between), along with five different brightness levels. Personally, I almost never need to turn my light up past the first brightness level and usually keep it on the warm light setting, but I like that I have plenty of options.

One other huge benefit is that the top portion of the light rotates and swivels, meaning I can adjust the light to hit the pages at exactly the right angle, whether it's a small-sized mass market paperback or a larger hardback. You can even set it on a timer, too, if you don't want "just one more chapter" to turn into a 3 am binge-reading sesh.

I'm hardly the only one obsessed with this little light. In the video above, TikTok creator Emma Halbrook shows off the standard version, raving over how easily the light clips onto pages (without leaving creases), and calling out how convenient the attached USB charger is.

I personally think it's worth the extra couple dollars to get the extendable feature, which comes in handy for larger books, but no matter which version of the light you choose, the reader in your life is sure to get plenty of use out of this cute, compact *and* incredibly practical present.
