I was immediately drawn to the ethos behind True Botanicals. The skincare brand is known for creating potent and sustainable products that are free of harsh chemicals and fillers and full of high-quality plant-derived ingredients (so nothing but the good stuff). The brand has mastered multiple products, including cleansers, serums and vitamin-rich boosters. And in 2022, they made their first foray into moisturizer with the launch of their Chebula Extreme Cream (featuring an under-the-radar ingredient known in the Ayurvedic world as ‘the king of medicines’). As it turns out, it was well ahead of its time.
According to Beauty Pie’s 2023 annual trends report, searches for ‘Chebula serum’ were up 922% when compared to last year. On TikTok alone, #Chebula has over 552K views as of writing, with clips ranging from layering techniques to Laura Dern’s red-carpet glow. Back in December, PureWow highlighted Chebula as a skincare ingredient to watch, and we have a hunch you’ll see it crop up more throughout 2023.
Even after using the Chebula Extreme Cream consistently before bed for a full year, I still can't get over the immediate and long-term effects it gives my skin. Like a nutrient-packed I.V. for your face, it provides round-the-clock hydration from morning to night. I wake up with brighter, smoother skin that looks and feels like I just got back from the spa.
Instead of the usual pore-clogging waxes most heavy-duty formulas rely on, the Chebula Extreme Cream is made with Calendula oil and Wild Pansy extract, along with two powerful antioxidants—Chebula (duh) and Acerola Cherry—that aim to prevent free radical damage and combat the five major signs of aging, including dryness, loss of firmness, fine lines, uneven texture and a lack of radiance.
So, as it turns out, the “extreme” moniker wasn’t just hyperbole and I’ve officially hitched my ride to the True Botanicals bandwagon. Next on my list of their must-try products? The Microbiome Enzyme Essence. Hey, if it’s good enough for Brooke Shields…
