Unfortunately for me, I started struggling with acne at the ripe age of 26. I've tried a ton of products, even prescriptions, to manage breakouts while always trying to keep my skincare routine simple and gentle since I have sensitive skin that scars easily. Masks are something I've always tried to stay away from because they can be a little too rough on my skin, but after trying the new Murad Rapid Relief sulfur mask ($44) I've changed my tune because I'm finally seeing real results.

I'm not someone who has accepted the endless cycle of blemishes that plague my face—in fact, I curse every one of those pesky splotches. So my efforts in finding products that produce palpable results are tedious and require checking a lot of boxes, including formula quality, product-to-price ratio, how long it takes to see results, consistency of the mask and how it feels when it's on my skin.

About the Murad Rapid Relief Sulfur Mask

The consistency of the mask is clay-like and it spreads well over the skin so you don't need a lot of it to cover your face, which is great for the longevity of the tube of product. You may be thinking it probably smells bad because of the sulfur formulation, but added eucalyptus neutralizes the scent so you don't need to plug your nose during the 10-minute wear time.

Aside from the sulfur (treats acne gently) and eucalyptus (soothing and moisturizing), the formula includes a blend of anti-inflammatory ingredients Austrian peat extract and kaolin to help prevent any drying and irritation (which you may experience from other masks), making it pretty hydrating and calming.

My Experience Using the Mask

This mask is very easy to use, so slathering it on twice a week is no biggie to add to my routine. Most clay masks have a very tough consistency and require you to really scrub to get it off, but this one melts off the skin like butter using only water, no washcloth required. And as a bonus, it doesn't feel like it's burning when it's on my skin.

After wearing this mask two to three times a week for the last month, I've seen a significant improvement in my acne problem areas: my cheeks and chin. One of my biggest issues is inactive pimples sticking around on my skin for weeks and that's one thing this mask has helped with. It's been able to really help shorten the life of any blemish remnant on my skin so they aren't hanging behind. I noticed a big difference in the texture of these left-over spots after just three uses of the mask.

I also notice that the inflammation of any pimples is much calmer than usual. They aren't as red or large when they do pop up and the redness fades faster when the pimple goes down. This is one of my favorite results because effected areas become less irritated and they are much easier to cover with makeup.

The Bottom Line

I will definitely continue to use this mask since it's done such a good job clearing my skin. And because a little goes a long way, I'd say the tube is worth the $44 price tag. From how soft and supple it leaves my skin immediately after use to its ability to reduce the inflammation and lifespan of pimples, it's truly been the perfect product to add to my skincare routine. Does anyone know Murad's address? Because I must send them a thank you card ASAP.
