I'll let you in on a little secret: I dislike styling gels. As a curly gal with low porosity hair and frizzy strands, I never found a gel that can a) hold my hair down without a few curls escaping, and b) not cause any brittleness and flakes. Instead, I rely on lightweight styling creams to get the job done—even if they weren't the best at achieving a slicked-back bun or high ponytail.

But, as a beauty editor, I'm always ready to try out new products (yes, even gels), and that's how I ended up changing my tune thanks to the Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible styling gel ($8). Here's my honest review of the hair gel that turned me into a convert—and why you should snag this $8 viral product for your own good hair days.

What Is Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel Used For?

The styling gel is used for slicked-back or spiky hairstyles that need plenty of hold. It's praised for its non-sticky, no-flake formula, a credit to Got2B's main styling agent called Alpha XTR. The product currently has a huge following on TikTok (I've seen it all over my For You page), and has even garnered hundreds of rave reviews from Target shoppers. "This gel has great hold! I’ve tried so many over the years to tame my curly hair," writes one. "This gel is one of the most effective and affordable I’ve found." Aside from being a go-to hair styler, some even use it on their brows to keep unruly hairs in place.

My Review of Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel

How Should You Use Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel?

Got2B

The brand recommends applying a small amount of product to your palm before rubbing your hands together and distributing on damp hair. Since I have a voluminous mane, I find a quarter-size amount is great for a bun or ponytail. However, if I am wearing my hair in its regular state, I prefer a pea- to dime-sized amount—just enough to scrunch up the ends.

The tube design makes it easy to squeeze out the clear gel. Texture-wise, the product feels very smooth and silky on my palms, as well as when I run it through my hair. FYI: It smells wonderful—it reminds me of fresh soapy bath. It's not at all overpowering, which is great for my sensitive nose. While I appreciate that it doesn't leave a sticky finish on my strands, it does leave my palms a bit tacky, so I suggest washing your hands afterwards.

How Long Does It Take for the Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel to Dry?

Got2B

Once I apply and brush my hair into a low bun, it dries fairly quickly. It hardens a bit, but I don't experience any stiffness or brittleness. The gel makes it easy to brush through my curls and get them to stay put—no swirls popping out. Oh, and the hold is impeccable; I can see why reviews kept mentioning the strong hold and flake-less finish. No white residue over here. What I wasn't expecting was how shiny and soft the gel makes my hair feel.

How Do You Remove Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel?

The brand claims it can maintain its hold until your next wash day. While it may be true for some hair types, my low porosity hair is like no. I'll admit it's great for a couple of days, but I know when it's time to wash my hair again. Luckily, my shampoo easily washes (or as Got2B says "unglues") the gel right off.

Bottom Line: Is Got2B Ultra Glued Invincible Styling Gel Worth It?

What We Like

  • pleasant scent
  • non-flaky formula
  • great hold

What We Don't Like

  • a bit sticky

Got2B

Yes, yes and yes. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works on my curly, frizzy hair. Like I mentioned, it's a tad sticky and hardens quickly, but not enough to turn your bun into a hard hat. Bottom line? I'm able to do a nice slicked-back bun without worrying about errant curls or flakiness. Looks like I'm no longer a gel skeptic—you win, Got2B.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the Difference Between the Black and Yellow Got2B Styling Gel?

Both products have similar benefits of a strong hold. However, the black tube has a lighter (almost water-like) consistency that works best for daily wear. The yellow tube is famously used for wigs and other protective styles as it provides an even stronger hold than the Invincible Styling Gel. It's also water-resistant and has a thicker texture.
