Why In-Flight Cocktails Are a Skin No-No, According to a Skincare Expert

Our favorite part of airplane travel? The in-flight wine and cocktails, of course. Unfortunately, it’s recently come to our attention that those high-altitude Sauvignon Blancs are actually part of the reason travel wreaks such havoc on our skin.

Sure, we know flying is dehydrating, but it’s nothing a couple of bottles of water can’t help. Right? Apparently, that’s not the case.

Skincare expert and clinical naturopath, Eugene He, says imbibing on the plane is a no-go if you want to preserve that dewy glow of yours. “Being on a plane is already tough on your skin because the dry environment forces the fluids out of your skin. When you add alcohol to the mix, your skin dehydrates more. It’s a major no-no,” he explained. Ugh, fine.

In addition to being the founder of K-beauty brand Ceramiracle, He spends—wait for it—more than 50 hours traveling each month. (We’re tired just imagining that.) Thanks to He’s extensive skincare training and travel, he’s found that just saying no to that in-flight cocktail in favor of water is the way to go.

He also takes the time to rehydrate his skin by applying a serum (he’s partial to his Ceramiracle First Light serum, $89) to not only his face, but also his hands and lips while traveling.

The 36-year-old founder notes that serums work well in warm or cold climates and not only refresh skin but moisturize it.

Goodbye mile-high cocktails, we’ll miss you. But that youthful glow will totally be worth it.
