Now, the name alone has us skeptical, because snail mucin on your face?! However, the product has more than 29,000 5-star reviews, with many calling it a total must-have. We took a closer look and see if it's worth adding to our routine.
This gel-based essence promises to hydrate and repair your skin. It's formulated with 96 percent snail secretion filtrate (aka mucin) that's known to soothe the skin, penetrate moisture into the area and reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles. You'll also find key ingredients in snail mucin such as collagen and elastin, which studies show firm and repair the skin. It also contains glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that gently exfoliates, reduces breakouts and smoothes texture.
The lightweight formula also includes hyaluronic acid and betaine for long-lasting hydration, as well as allantoin (a chemical compound) which improves acne scars and calms the skin. (FYI: No snails are harmed during the process. The brand claims the mucin is gathered in safe, environmentally-friendly way.)
Shoppers say the product absorbs quickly into the skin (minus the tackiness), offers deep hydration and leaves a nice silky smooth glow behind. If you open TikTok and search #snailmucin, you'll find tons of creators raving about the essence. As one TikToker says, "It is indeed effective to restore skin's barrier and heal blemishes. I have a skin condition called eczema and it has calmed down my flares so much."
It's also a hit on Amazon. It's the number one best-selling product in the facial serums and unique beauty category—and the 29,000 5-star reviews are proof. One reviewer says it completely transformed her skincare routine: "This essence is a true game-changer when it comes to combating dullness and repairing damaged skin. With its exceptional formulation and impressive results, it has become an indispensable step in my Korean skincare regimen."
The only con that some reviewers point out is the texture can be a little thick, so a little goes a long way. It's also suggested to do a patch test before going full in on the essence as it may be irritating to some skin types.
It's recommended to use an essence after cleansing your face. Once you wash your face and pat the area until its completely dry, apply two pumps to your face and neck. The brand suggests patting it gently using your finger tips for the best absorption. Use it morning and/or night for the best results.
