As an editor, I try a desk-full of new products every week. Some I love (like Supergoop Zincscreen), some were just not my thing (ahem, Dior Backstage Airflash Foundation). It’s all a bit of an experiment. But what I’ve come to realize is that even though I have all the products needed for a flawless contour/highlight situation, I really do prefer a low-maintenance tinted moisturizer that I can slather on with my fingers before running out the door.
Anyone that knows me knows that I am habitually five to ten minutes late for everything. So when I find a product that makes my skin appear like I spent hours perfecting a no-makeup look, I am a fan for life. Hi, Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer, and welcome to my very curated makeup bag.
As the product name suggests, this chic little tube of tinted moisturizer looks just like my own skin—with a pretty filter. No cakeiness, no chalkiness and definitely no weird midday settling into fine lines and wrinkles. All it takes is a pea-size dollop to cover my entire face and achieve a blurring effect that masks uneven skin tone and redness from a few breakouts here and there. And if that’s all it did, I would be satisfied.
But then I found out that Just Skin is actually packed with complexion-boosting ingredients (like honeysuckle, green tea and edelweiss) that rival those in my skin-care routine. It was developed to help defend against free radicals like smog and pollution to up my glow, even when I don’t have it on. No, I can’t really see if it’s working in real time, but knowing it’s creating any kind of barrier against contamination is enough. Plus, it includes a base of SPF 15 titanium dioxide (crucial), and although it’s a mineral sunscreen, it never leaves a white cast on my skin.
