They do a great job at locking in moisture and making your skin feel smoother, softer and more radiant—not to mention how good many also smell. If you need help finding the right one for you, I’ve compiled a list of the 15 best body oils to try in 2024, from my overall pick, Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil, and the budget-friendly find Neutrogena Body Oil to the most luxurious of the bunch, Augustinus Bader Body Oil. What to Consider When Shopping for a Body Oil

  • Ingredients: If a formula has the following ingredients than you’re in good shape: jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, argan oil, meadowfoam oil or rosehip oil. These options have been known to hydrate, soften and soothe the skin.
  • Skin Type: A body oil is a great option for dry skin due to its moisturizing properties. While most body oils are non-greasy, many are comedogenic (which means they clog pores and promote breakouts) for oilier skin types. Check the ingredient list if you have acne-prone skin to make sure you’re getting the right oil for you.
  • Skin Concerns: Are you trying to target dryness? How about irritation or discoloration? These questions can help simplify your search as the list above includes a host of body oils catered to your concerns. For example, L’Occitane Supple Skin Body Oil is great for improving stretch marks, while Moroccanoil Dry Body Oil wants to help combat dryness.
  • Fragrances: Every nose is different, so if you gravitate towards a specific note it’ll make your choice so much easier. There are plenty of citrus, floral, warm or earthy fragrances on this list.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are the Benefits of Body Oil?

Body oil is a great way to lock in moisture while softening and smoothing the skin. Many formulas take it a step further in protecting the skin against UVA/UVB and/or improving skin’s texture overtime. Other formulas are known for reducing the appearance of stretch marks, dark spots, hyperpigmentation and more.

How Often Should You Use Body Oil?

It all depends on you. Treat body oil like you would a body lotion. Most body oils are fast-absorbing, so a little goes a long way. Use about a quarter-size amount and spread it nicely across the skin. If it has SPF, you want to reapply every two hours to protect your skin from the sun.

Can All Skin Types Use Body Oil?

As mentioned, body oil is great for dry skin. It helps seal in moisture for silky smooth skin. It might not be the best option for oiler skin types, but you can always test the waters or reach out to your dermatologist for a second opinion.
