Whether we’re hunting down Taylor Swift’s Reformation loafers or trying out Princess Catherine’s Polène bag, you could say we have passion for celebrity fashion. So, we’ll let you in on a little secret: Mansur Gavriel’s leather Everyday Soft Tote ($795) might just be the under-the-radar celeb bag.

The New York-based leather brand is known for its luxe shoes and handbags, and the tote is a reliable favorite of stars like Katie Holmes and Julianne Moore, who have been photographed with it on myriad occasions. The bag even sneakily made its way into the final scene of Barbie, where Margot Robbie has the tote in Dahlia slung over her shoulder.

While that particular pink hue is sadly discontinued, Holmes’s and Moore’s trusty black iteration (with its eye-catching red interior) is a mainstay. It’s also available in four additional colors: Avorio (cream), Dolly (fuchsia), Seaglass (green) and Desert (brown). There are generous drop-down handles that make it easy to sling over your shoulder (even when it's stuffed) or carry in the crook of your elbow. The interior also has a self-tie closure that gives the bag dimension when drawn in. And of course, the whole thing is made from Italian soft calfskin leather, which buyers have called “sturdy and supple” and “buttery.”

As proven by the laundry list of celebs who adore it, the tote is as versatile and universal as they come, and, more importantly, incredibly roomy. Slide your laptop in and lug it to the office, wear it out to lunch or pack it for a weekend trip. As a bonus, the tote includes an additional small matching pouch for those easy-to-lose items, like your phone, keys and lipstick—so there’ll be no more fishing around in a Mary Poppins bag. Want to add a personal touch? Monogramming is available for an additional cost.

While we love the sophistication of the A-list-approved Mansur Gavriel tote, we know that $800 for a tote bag isn’t funny money. If you love the look but aren’t quite willing to pony up, here are three similar styles that deliver on quality and sartorial flair, but at more wallet-friendly price points.

Cuyana’s classic leather tote is almost a dead-ringer for Mansur Gavriel’s, all while being $500 less. The Megan Markle-approved bag is available in Cappuccino and Caramel, with a waitlist for black. It, too, has a self-tie in the interior, but instead of a pouch has a small zippered pocket. The size is also comparable, accommodating a laptop up to 16 inches, and monograming is available. All of Cuyana’s leather is also certified by the Leather Working Group, an organization that certifies environmental responsibility in the tanning process.

Madewell’s The Shopper Tote is a pretty pebbled leather variation with collapsible sides that can be secured with a button and dog clip (that doubles up as a key fob). It also has an interior pocket and comes in two colors, black and sepia. At 12.75 inches wide, the tote is a little smaller than Mansur’s, so while it might not be an office bag, it’ll definitely have you running errands in style. And at under $200, it’s a steal—even TikTok’s leather expert approves of the brand.

Of course the queen of classic American fashion would design a timeless leather tote bag worthy of becoming a wardrobe staple for years to come. Tory Burch’s Perry design features three interior pockets and a middle zipper compartment for optimal organization. It’s structured, so it’ll stand on its own without slouching, while metal feet protect the bottom from direct contact with surfaces. The bag comes in four colors: Black, Light Umber, Clam Shell and New Ivory. It's a bit pricier than the previous two alternatives, but we think it’s investment-worthy, to say the least.
