How to Wear a Bralette (Without Feeling Like a Teenager)

Whether you’re a lingerie addict or just an essentials-only type of gal, you’ve probably heard of the bralette. Think of it as the sexy yet effortless (and wireless) cousin to your normal undergarment selection. Many versions come in fun colors and delicate lace fabrics, while others are more simple and versatile. Before you cry out in agony that they’re just for the itty-bitty committee, listen up: There are plenty of padded, thick-strapped and adjustable styles for curvier ladies. Here, five ways to wear them like a grown-up.

1. Under Something Sheer
You already know it’s the year of sheer, but how exactly does one pull off a see-through blouse? Layer a full-coverage bralette (or bodysuit) underneath, of course. If a contrasting color feels too aggressive, matching the bralette to your top keeps things subtle (but still edgy).

2. With V-Neck Tops
A hint of lace peeking out over a white V-neck is the summer staple of fashionistas everywhere. Aim for a triangle-cupped number with scalloped edges that peep over the edge of your neckline without screaming for attention.

3. With Anything Backless
Low-backed sweaters and tops set the perfect stage for some fun bralette action. This works especially well with racerback numbers and interesting strap details that highlight the playful silhouette of your backless blouse.

4. Under Your Favorite Button-down
Much like the V-neck tee, a collared shirt pairs nicely with a lacy, scalloped-edge bralette peering out over the button seam.

5. Beneath a Buttoned Blazer
Feel like you’re ready for a full commit? Try buttoning up your blazer over a pair of high-waisted jeans and a bralette. The tiniest hint of your pretty undergarment combined with the sophistication of your blazer equals major bombshell.
